More advantages of the Sintratec Nesting Solution

  • High speed: The Sintratec algorithm computes faster than market-leading programs

  • Great flexibility: Numerous configurations (e.g. desired orientation) and parameters can be defined as required

  • Made for SLS: The engine is perfectly adapted to the technological characteristics of Selective Laser Sintering

  • From one source: Integration into the Sintratec Central software eliminates the need for switching between programs

  • Many additional features: Various analytical tools such as collision checking or density diagrams guarantee successful print jobs

  • Ideal for new customers: The Sintratec S2 becomes an even more powerful production system with the nesting function

SPECIAL WELCOME OFFER

New customers who purchase our latest Sintratec S2 system will receive a Nesting Solution Ultimate license (valued at 6’500€) for one year for FREE! That’s right: In addition to our high-tech SLS starter cell, you will get this powerful software update free of charge for a limited time!

This offer is only valid until 31.06.2022.

    Ideal packing density

Sintratec now offers a nesting function as an extension of our Sintratec Central Software. With a single click the imported 3D objects are analyzed by the algorithm and optimally placed inside the cylindrical print area of the Sintratec S2 System. Users are able to choose between different configurations to achieve, for example, the highest packing density or the desired orientation of the components. Not only does the Sintratec Nester solve these calculations much faster in direct comparison with previous market leaders, but also sets new standards in terms of density.

    Unprecedented throughput

Packing density is a key factor in optimizing the throughput of 3D production – especially with Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), as that process does not require support structures. The more densely the parts are arranged, the more can be produced with a single print job. In contrast to conventional placement, the algorithm can achieve up to twice the density (depending on geometries) and correspondingly reduce the necessary print volume by half. This results in greatly reduced printing times, lower material usage and faster unpacking – in short, a significantly higher throughput.

    Low cost per part

The Sintratec Nesting Solution is the next step towards a more efficient additive manufacturing. The combination with the Nester in particular is intended to make the Sintratec S2 system an even more attractive option for print service bureaus and 3D production. Manufacturing of high-quality industrial parts from from the variety of materials available can thus be carried out at especially low unit costs and largely automated.

    What users say

The opinion of industry experts that use the Sintratec Nesting Solution:

“The nesting tool in the Sintratec Central is impressive. After setting the desired constraints e.g. to the part’s orientation, the only thing to do is to hit „enter“ and then wait (actually there isn’t so much waiting) for the algorithm to iteratively compress the parts – which can be hundreds – to shrink the build volume’s height and thereby reduce the powder, your costs and last but not least the impact on the environment.”

    Stephan HenrichDesigner & Architect

“The nesting software is the key to unlocking short run production on the Sintratec S2 system. Its best-in-class nesting algorithm automatically generates packing densities that far surpass anything else in the industry. The combination of highly efficient printing with an affordable initial investment make the S2 a no-brainer for teams looking to grow with additive manufacturing.”

    Available Nesting Modes

The Sintratec Nesting Solution comes with multiple nesting configuration modes. Find a list of pro and cons of each mode below:

    Explanation of terms

    Upskin

Details facing up are printed with sharper edges

    Downskin

Details facing down are somewhat more rounded or washed out

    Layer Lines

Models are “cut” into cross sections and then printed layer by layer from bottom to top. This leads to slightly visible layer lines in the printing direction. Changing the orientation of the model in respect to the layer line direction also changes the look of the final product. Printing lines are more visible for surfaces with a shallow angle to the layer lines.

    Free

    +     Highest packing density

    –      Not all parts are printed the same

    –      No control over visible layer lines on parts

    –      No control over upskin and downskin

    Minimal Downskin

+    Downskin (prints with less details) is minimized

+    All parts have identical layer lines

+    All parts have identical up and down skins

    –     Reduced packing density

    Standing Up

+   Parts are printed with the shorter side aligned to the layer lines / All parts have identical layer lines

+   Increased packing density over “minimal downskin” because models are allowed to be flipped upside down

+   Long parts fit in the build volume

    –    Not all parts have identical up and down skins

    –    Reduced packing density over “free”

    Lying Flat

+   Parts are printed with the longer side aligned to the layer lines (increases part material performance in layer line direction)

+   All parts have identical layer lines

    –    Not all parts have identical up and down skins

    –    Long parts might not fit in the build volume

    –    Reduced packing density over “free”

    Slanted

+   Most surfaces are printed with a 45° angle to the layer lines. This balances material performance and optics

+   All parts have identical layer lines

    –    Not all parts have identical up and down skins

    –    Reduced packing density over “free”

    Keep current upright

+   The orientation of each part before nesting is respected during nesting by keeping the parts upright

+   User has full control over up and down skin and layer line of each part

+   Not all parts have to be oriented the same

    –    Parts have to be rotated manually by the user before nesting

    –    Packing density depends on the orientation chosen by the user
